Ogden Named as Starting Line for 2012 Tour of Utah in August

Ogden was named as the starting point of the 2012 Tour of Utah.

The Tour of Utah has brought some of the world’s top cyclists to northern Utah every summer for eight years running. Authentically known as, “America’s Toughest Stage Race,” this multi-day road race follows the Tour de France, in early August. The combination of magnificent scenery, relentless climbs over high mountain routes, the punishing challenge of desert courses, and urban circuits have earned it the respect of competitors, sponsors, and cycling fans worldwide.

This will be the fifth year Ogden has been an official host city for the tour, but the first year the race will begin in Ogden. Ogden is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts and will host teams and staff for several days prior to the race start, with the Marriott Ogden serving as the headquarters hotel.

“The Tour of Utah continues to grow in stature as a major cycling event in North America. When you get calls from teams around the world to come to Utah, then you know you are doing something right,” said Steve Miller, president of the Tour of Utah.
